Description

“A Spitfire A Day Keeps The Nazis Away” The Spitfire achieved legendary status during the Battle of Britain, a reputation aided by the famous “Spitfire Fund” organised and run by Lord Beaverbrook, the Minister of Aircraft Production. In Northern Ireland, Belfast Telegraph readers raised enough for numerous Spitfires and in recognition the aircraft were all given Ulster names – Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry, Tyrone, Larne, Ballymena, Bangor, Aldergrove, Mountains O’Mourne, Enniskillen, Mid-Ulster, Belfast, Portadown, City of Derry and Harlandic.
