A single-seater racing car rounding the hairpin at Kirkistown.

Kirkistown has been Northern Ireland’s premier racing circuit since it was opened in 1953. This scene depicts a typical motor race in the mid 1960s.

Growing up near by and with my family having strong connections to the racing there, I have many fond memories of the circuit, particularly in the 1970s when I would watch most of the races from the back of my father’s volunteered breakdown truck. This scene transports me back the early days of Kirkistown… I can close my eyes and smell the Castrol R!
