Art Deco print of the 1928 RAC Tourist Trophy Race (Ards TT) at Newtownards featuring the winner Kaye Don driving a Lea-Francis with the Londonderry Monument (Scrabo Tower) in the background. From 1928 through to 1936, public roads between Dundonald, Newtownards and Comber were closed to host the RAC Tourist Trophy races, the equivalent to a modern day Grand Prix. Up to 500,000 spectators lined the roads in awe as the top drivers from around the world expertly (and courageously) drove great marques such as Bentley, Mercedes, MG, Riley, Alfa Romeo and Bugatti at magnificent speeds.
