Description
Art Deco print of the 1930 Ards TT (RAC Tourist Trophy Race) with Sir Henry (Tim) Birkin powering his Blower Bentley through Conway Square in Newtownards. The eventual winner was the Italian driver Tazio Nuvolari heading an Alfa Romeo 1-2-3. From 1928 through to 1936, public roads between Dundonald, Newtownards and Comber were closed to host the RAC Tourist Trophy races, the equivalent to a modern day Grand Prix. Up to 500,000 spectators lined the roads in awe as the top drivers from around the world expertly (and courageously) drove great marques such as Bentley, Mercedes, MG, Riley, Alfa Romeo and Bugatti at magnificent speeds.
