Art Print of the 1929 RAC Tourist Trophy Race (Ards TT) at Newtownards featuring Germany’s Rudolf Caracciola driving a Mercedes SSK around the Dundonald Hairpin (currently the Elk Bar) on his way to victory. From 1928 through to 1936, public roads between Dundonald, Newtownards and Comber were closed to host the RAC Tourist Trophy races, the equivalent to a modern day Grand Prix. Up to 500,000 spectators lined the roads in awe as the top drivers from around the world expertly (and courageously) drove great marques such as Bentley, Mercedes, MG, Riley, Alfa Romeo and Bugatti at magnificent speeds.
